Swallow 5x7 acrylic

This is a familiar sight often here in the country. The swallows dart in and out after a juicy little bug. We did get a little rain the other day so every thing has greened up a little but today its back to the heat.

Birds in the back yard

Cedar Waxwings
Prothonotary Warbler

Orchard Oriole
Male Summer Tanager
Female Summer Tanager
rose breasted grosbeak
Blue Grosbeak
I have been doing a lot of bird watching this spring mainly because it has been so nice outside and our mulberry tree has attracted so many birds I have not seen before. Alas most of the berrys are gone and a few birds were only here for a few days. Here are some pictures. May be a painting in my future of one.

Still here

I have been so busy the past month I have not worked on any art. I had a momma cat go missing leaving me with 3 unweaned kittens outside. Took me about a week to get them close enough to catch the little beggars. Once caught we brought them in the house and I had to try and get them tame to at least have a chance in finding them a home. After 4 days there was a break out and two pushed a window pane out and escaped and it started all over again.

But we have a happy ending my Vet took all three and I know they will have a good home with her. Yea

My lily's have been blooming their heart out and I had to clean out the beds. This is one that has a pretty flower every time. Right now I look like I have measles as the dreaded mosquito has eaten me up. Will have to try my had at painting one of my lily's soon.

Jay Walking

6 x 20 acrylic $175.00
Have been busy in the yard since it has gotten warmer and all my plants have been put outside and re- potted. The mulberry tree has been attracting birds and I have been sitting out there with my camera. This is one of a blue jay I got a picture of. They like to come down and get the cat food and get pretty close to me. I hope to start working back with my watercolors.
We had out spring show at the Vicksburg Art Association this last week and congratulation to my bud Lisa King Floore she did very well this time around. Please visit her site to see some of her work.
Wrll the computer is acting up again and will have to load the picture later.

Summer Tree

16x20 acrylic

I tried to be a little looser with this one. One thing I noticed with the last painting if I use a lot of glaze medium the picture I photograph looks just terrible so I have to blur it a little to knock down some of the glare. This is something I will have to work on for future paintings.

Good Day for a Ride

11 x14 acrylic
I have been away it seems a like a long time. The computer is still acting up and we think the vidio card may be going bad. So I have to hurry and get this up while it is working LOL.
I tried my hand at putting and animal and a human in a painting. The animals do not scare me it is people I am just never happy on how they come out. I know I should not get frustrated but when you have an image in your mind and can't get it to come out on canvas or paper can be soooo frustrating.

Computer has been sick

I have not forgot about my blog but we have had computer trouble as of late. We were told we needed to wipe it out and start over about a month ago and we did do a back up at that time but not all our stuff got saved. I went to Birmingham for a week and before I left I took pictures of the easter eggs I did and one of my new paintings that I delivered to Peterson's in Vicksburg. I had good intentions to posting when I got back. You guessed it the computer crashed and poof all gone. Our video card was out of whack and it was so bad I could not look at the computer very much. Yea that is now fixed. Next problem was the business cards and tags for my work was wiped out so I have had to recreate both and finally got it to work. So for now I'll just post one of my older works. It is a charcoal that sold a few years ago and was one of my hubby's favorites since it was his boots and old gun. Hope to post some new work soon working on a little large scale than 5x7 or 8x10 for the show in April.

The Honey Hole 1 and 2

The person who wanted the pintail and turkey picture wanted to paint him and a friend’s favorite place to duck hunt. They called it the Honey Hole. He asked me to paint two so he could give one to his friend. This was a first for me and I just could not get them to come out exactly.

Quick Draw 2009 Jan in MS 11x14

Laura shown here working on her rooster this picture and the one below was shown in the Hattiesburg American newspaper under the photo gallery.
The woman in the bright red is also my bud Lisa, hard at work on her piece using bits and pieces found after Katrina went threw on the coast.
I was so into my painting I vaguely remember this guy saying don’t move just pretend I’m not here, then all I heard is this clicking of the shutter and was wondering when it was going to quit.

Here we are at the start of the horn. Lisa is at my side and Laura is up front hubby was my assistant (he did a great job changing out my water and cleaning my brushes when needed. Love ya hon.) and took this picture from up above. This was a really cool place if ever you get a chance and in Hattiesburg go by the Bottling Co.

Bad picture but this is the finished product

Well I survived the quick draw yesterday and it was a lot of fun but it was a lot smaller than last year with artist and guest there it seemed to me. I guess the economy is hurting everyone. I sold one small painting Nannies Knife and my blackbird came out OK and sold but not for as much as last year in the auction. At least I was able to cover my cost of the frames.

Blackbird Study Acrylic 6 X 6

Tomorrow is the Quick Draw with the South MS Art Association in Hattiesburg for the Aids Service Coalition and 121 Haven House benefit.
I did this last year and this is the second year for the group to do this. It was a lot of fun but a little scary with every one coming around watching you work. Being an artist is usually a solitary job or shared with others in a class. Last year I did a watercolor of a ginger cat and this year I will attempt an acrylic 11 x 14. We all have one hour to produce a piece of art in the medium of our choice and frame if it needs framing and a real auctioneer will try to get the crowd excited and bidding on our pieces.
Last year we had works in oil, watercolor, pastel, colored pencil, material, mixed media, and wood turning and they all were beautiful.
The above painting is my practice run it took me three hours on this little 6 X 6. YEEEEEEEEE I hope I can go faster on a bigger one!!! I am so nit picky.

Nanies Knife 5 x 7

Sold
This is a little painting using my husbands grandmothers old kitchen knife and one of her old pitchers. The little knife almost is worn down on the blade. I can just picture her using it to slice a home grown tomato fresh from the garden.

Hand Painted Christmas Ball of Snickers

Well 2009 has started with a very stuffy head and chest cold. Today is the first day that I have felt human. Here is my last Christmas Ball I did it was of my friend Lisa’s little dog Snickers.
I did have a good month it appears at Petersons Art’s and Antiques I was able to sale 5 items.
Now I have to get busy and do some more to place there. The Quick Draw in Hattiesburg is coming up at the end of the month so I have to put my thinking cap on as to what I can do in an hour. More on that in another post
