Beet study 8x10

A small study again with the palette knife. I had missed Mondays class and knew I would not have time to do a large painting and unfortunately the beets were a little shriveled but I will try to do another because the beets were really pretty. When I go to the grocery store the produce department is now possible subjects.

White Vase 16x20

Big one again for me done in two classes. I do find it hard to get back in the grove the second sitting. Classes are Monday and Wed. afternoon and with the day in between I'm slow to start again. Also this is a classroom with other drawing classes going on and some times the set up changes or the subject wilts or dies. I kinda surprised my self on this on with the white mums. The one on the right came out perfect I thought but the one on the left gave me fits. At first I thought adding the blue to the vase would be hard with the knife but I think I did OK.

This Monday we are attempting a painting of a fish this will definitely be a first for me. Yeeeee

Vicksburg Art Show

I was lucky and got a ribbon for Honorable Mention for my painting of the Watermelon Slice and Salt out of 24 entries. Happy Dance here as my White Pumpkin sold. One never knows what is going to happen at a show I really thought it would be the other way around that the watermelon would sell.

White Pumpkin

8x10 knife (sold)

I really liked the way this one turned out and decided to enter it along with the Jar of Honey and my Watermelon and salt into the Vicksburg Art Show this past Oct.

Honey Jar study

8x10 knife
This is the first one I really like with the knife. I know I have a way to go but it looks like I may be getting a handle on the pallet knife and I really like using it. There are advantages as you don't wear out your brushes and it is easy to clean and use very little of ones turp.

Great Pumpkin

16x20 knife

Still working with the knife and I like this one except for the yellow flowers. I did feel like I was under pressure to get it finished and rushed it a little and they look like yuck to me but I like the rest of the painting.

Pallet Knife I and II

Study II 8x10
Study one 16x20

I have been using the pallet knife for my last few paintings and at first I thought it was terrible. I though I was using so much paint but now about 5 paintings later I think I'm getting better. Here are my first one so. This again is a big stretch for me.

Harlequin sugar bowl and Apple 5x7 oil

This is a sugar bowl my mom gave me as she is in the process of getting rid of some of her things and it is one I remember on our kitchen table when I was a kid. I have several old bowls from my grand mother that I remember things in like gravey in one and another that she always had figs in. Now that I discovered the joy of still life paintings I hope to use more of the family memories in my paintings.

#5 8x10
This one I really enjoyed doing and I would like to find a vase like this to do again. The green leaves look a little weak but the wandering Jew did better. Still one I really want to retouch.
#4 8x10

#3 8x 10 (#2 was so bad I just couldn't take a picture.)

#1 (11x14)
Well it has been a while since I have put anything up as most of the work has been at school. I did take the painting class for this fall semester and have been really enjoying it. As you can see it is very different from what I have done in the past. I am trying to get my feet with the oils on the mason boards It is very slick and the paint slides around. Also as some one who is used to working in layers and using glazes this one shot with the brush is way out of my comfort zone and now I have them home to photograph I'm just dying to go in and tweak it with a little glazing. I will not touch I will not touch.

Pear sliced

oil 5x7

Boy I really love the pears what a challenge they are to paint. I thought I might have a little trouble getting the color of the inside of the pear but I'm fairly pleased with it. Now I'd like to do one a little large and more complex but it may be a while before I get around to that. Tomorrow I start my painting II class at Hinds. They did not have the class when I was there only Painting I. The challenge there will to paint larger formats. I have gotten used to the small and they are easy to do at the house.

Watermelon and salt shaker

oil 8x10

I did two paintings of a watermelon and salt shaker one to go for a silent auctions at my hubby's work. 100% of the proceeds go to a trust fund for children of highway workers that were killed while on the job. Please remember to slow down when going threw a work zone as this kind of accident does happen.
I really think I'm getting better on my watermelons compared to the first one I did which you will never see. hehe.
Update 10/30/09 I entered this one in the VAA show and won an honarable mention with this painting out of 24 entries. YEA!
